Help Us Dance in Baltimore
UNCW's Ritmo Latino dance club is raising money for our first-ever trip to the Salsa Bachata Congress in Baltimore, Maryland. This trip will mark the first time our performance team has ever traveled as a whole to attend a congress--a four-day conference of dance workshops and education.
The Baltimore Salsa Bachata Congress is one of the premiere Latin dance events on the east coast. People travel from across the country and all over the world to celebrate and express their passion for music and dance, and we hope to join them. When we attend this congress, we’ll not only learn from professional dancers and improve our own techniques, but we’ll also develop a better understanding of the dance as a whole. All that we learn, we will bring back to the UNCW community and future generations of Ritmo Latino dancers.
Ritmo Latino, UNCW’s Latin dance club, fosters a sense of community, family, and diversity by sharing our passion for dance and following el llamado de la clave—the call of the clave (the beat that salsa music uses).
Our organization was founded in 2010. As our organization has grown in nine years, so has our dedication and impact. In Ritmo, we strive to learn and teach Latin American cultures through diverse Latin-style dancing: salsa, bachata, cumbia, rueda, and others. Ritmo provides an inclusive recreational activity for the UNCW campus, as well as a rich cultural contribution to the university and the Wilmington community. We perform at multiple UNCW events each semester, entertaining and educating the student body. We aim for precision while celebrating individuality. We teach dance technique to anybody who wants to learn, and we also develop members’ confidence and professionalism.
How We’ll Get There
The UNCW Student Government Association generously granted us $1,000 toward our trip. Each member participating in the Salsa Bachata Congress will also personally contribute $200. To cover the remaining costs--hotel room, registration, and gas money add up--our goal is to raise $1,000.
Every donation counts, even as little as $1.00. Please share this TealStarter campaign with as many people as you can! With the help of the campus community that has supported us so well over the past nine years, we hope to reach new heights of excellence and skill.
